OMHS SGA's Responsibilities

SGA Executive Council

SGA President

  • Preside at Student Government meetings.
  • Oversee Presidential Committees
  • Appoint committees.
  • Determine procedures.
  • Represent the Student Government on public occasions.
  • Call special meetings with advisor’s approval.
  • Cooperate with members of the Student Government and faculty and to perform any other responsibilities assigned by the advisor or principal.

SGA Vice-President

  • Act as chairperson of a business meeting if the president is unable to attend.
  • Be prepared to assume the responsibilities of president at any time.
  • Help the president in organizing the calendar of Student Government activities.
  • Regulate the order of each SGA Meeting.
  • Oversee Presidential Committees in agreement with the SGA President

SGA Secretary

  • Take minutes of all business meetings of the Student Government and provide timely
  • copies for all members.
  • Write all correspondence for the Student Government.
  • Keep records and documents concerning SGA business.
  • Keep an accurate calendar of monthly activities as scheduled by the Student
  • Government.
  • Oversee a Presidential Committee as determined by the SGA Advisor, President, and Officers.

SGA Treasurer

  • Keep an accurate record of all financial transactions.
  • Authorize payment vouchers and checks, and review purchase orders.
  • Work with the advisor, president and vice-president in the formation of budgets for
  • the Student Government.
  • Make a financial report at every regular business meeting of the Student Government.
  • Make financial reports and interpretations on each student government project.
  • Oversee a Presidential Committee as determined by the SGA Advisor, President, and Officers.

SGA Parliamentarian

  • Keep order in meetings.
  • Ensure that the constitution is enforced.
  • Oversee a Presidential Committee as determined by the SGA Advisor, President, and Officers.
  • Perform any responsibilities delegated to him/her by the president.

SGA Reporter

  • Report Student Government activities to various newspapers, TV stations, and other media outlets in a manner that appropriately reflects Oak Mountain High School.
  • Head up the Publicity Committee.
  • Any and all other public relations activities.
  • Oversee a Presidential Committee as determined by the SGA Advisor, President, and Officers.

SGA Representatives

  • Serve as a communication link between the students and the student Government
  • Attend all student government functions
  • Inform students of events which might interest them
  • Encourage students to participate in activities
  • Conduct informal polls on how students feel about certain topics
  • Inform the SGA of student complaints.


Class Officers

President

  • Communicating with entire class and representing the class in any events/meetings necessary.
  • Coordinating with class presidents to delegate jobs
  • Working with other committees as needed.
  • Coordinating and reporting to Executive President as needed
  • Organizing class related activities 


Vice-President

  • Taking on responsibilities of the class president when needed. 
  • Coordinating with class vice-presidents to delegate jobs
  • Working with other committees as needed.
  • Coordinating and reporting to Executive Vice-President as needed

Secretary

  • Coordinating with class secretaries to delegate jobs
  • Working with other committees as needed.
  • Coordinating and reporting to Executive Treasurer as needed

Treasurer

  • Developing and executing all fundraising projects for SGA
  • Reporting class account details from the Executive Council Treasurer to the Class President
  • Coordinating with class treasurers to delegate jobs
  • Working with other committees as needed.
  • Coordinating and reporting to Executive Treasurer as needed.

Reporter

  • Publicizing and promoting all SGA hosted events through class social media.
  • Gathering/taking pictures and video throughout the school year to create an end-of-the-year DVD for the SGA banquet.
  • Coordinating with class reporters to delegate jobs
  • Working with other committees as needed.
  • Overseeing committees as selected by the Executive Council
  • Coordinating and reporting to Executive Reporter as needed.


Class Representative

  • Liaison between student body & SGA.

SGA Committee Chairs


School Spirit

  • Providing timely, up to date reports to the EC and SGA of committee’s plans and progress 
  • Creating all banners for football games, pep rallies, dances, and any other school activities that require banners.
  • Raising money through the creation and sale of any and all merchandise promoting sports and activities at OMHS
  • Promoting enthusiasm and sportsmanship at all school events. (Girls AND Boys sports, ALL grade levels) 
  • Coordinating with other committees as necessary
  • Coordinating schedules for collecting money for items sold by their committee
  • Coordinating distribution of sold merchandise
  • Publicizing school events, activities, and merchandise sales through social media
  • The Chair of the committee is in charge of meeting with your committee members monthly, and reporting to the SGA Vice President as needed.


Social Events

  • Providing timely, up to date reports to the EC and SGA of committee’s plans and progress 
  • Planning social events exclusive to SGA members throughout the school year.
  • Events should not be inclusive to any one particular  grade and should promote better relationships among SGA members.
  • Coordinating with other committees as necessary.
  • The Chair of the committee is in charge of meeting with your committee members monthly, and reporting to the SGA Vice President as needed.  

Examples:

Planning fun events such as (Halloween, Valentine's, End of the Year, etc), Christmas Party/ dirty Santa, delegating to SGA members needed items for upcoming events, Calling Danberry to set up date/time for caroling. Family reveal at retreat.



Homecoming

  • Providing timely, up to date reports to the EC and SGA of committee’s plans and progress 
  • Coordinating events and elections during Homecoming week.
  • Purchasing all necessary items for Homecoming week (ie Queen’s Crown, sashes, flowers, etc…)
  • Coordinating Homecoming Parade
  • Communicating all homecoming information to students.
  • Coordinating with other committees as necessary
  • Coordinating schedules for collecting money for items sold by their committee
  • The Chair of the committee is in charge of meeting with your committee members monthly, and reporting to the SGA Vice President as needed.  


****This committee will also be in charge of the Oak Mountain Color Run in coordination with the Oak Mountain Color Run committee.



Color Run

  • Providing timely, up to date reports to the EC and SGA of committee’s plans and progress 
  • Coordinating events, planning, and organizing the day of the event.  
  • Purchasing all necessary items for the event (ie paint, t-shirts, and all other necessary items in the binder) 
  • Coordinating runners and volunteers ahead of time and on the day of. 
  • Communicating all Color Run information to students, community, and participants.
  • Coordinating with other committees as needed. 
  • The Chair of the committee is in charge of meeting with your committee members monthly, and reporting to the SGA Vice President as needed.  

Examples:

Making calls, making orders months in advance, organizing and planning how the day will run and schedules, getting crews assembled with responsible people to cover parking, tailgate, mc, registration, startup crew, paint, and cleanup, Finally going out the the event site and coordinating with the Oak Mountain State Park event planner months before and marking the trail the day before.



School Dances

  • Providing timely, up to date reports to the EC and SGA of committee’s plans and progress 
  • Planning Winterfest, Sadie Hawkins, and any other dances assigned to the SGA to plan for the school year.
  • Planning and execution includes all signs, decorations, entertainment, food and drink, security, set up, and clean up for event.
  • Coordinating with other committees as necessary
  • The Chair of the committee is in charge of meeting with your committee members monthly, and reporting to the SGA Vice President as needed.  

Examples:

-Purchasing decorations and items needed for the dances (tarps, spray paint, flowers, burlap, tablecloths, etc.)

-Creating a playlist for each dance and communicating that with the DJ and/or band.

-Making a schedule to sell tickets at lunch weeks in advance for Sadies.

-Coordinating ticket sales for Winterfest.

-Setting up and coordinating set up and clean up of the dance



School Dance

  • Providing timely, up to date reports to the EC and SGA of committee’s plans and progress 
  • Coordinating all food and entertainment needed for each tailgate.
  • Planning the set-up and clean-up of tailgates at Oak Mountain Athletic Events and SGA Events (ie Oak Mountain Color Run and Relay for Life 
  • Coordinating with other committees as necessary
  • The Chair of the committee is in charge of meeting with your committee members monthly, and reporting to the SGA Vice President as needed.  


Examples:

Setting up the alumni tailgate during homecoming week, setting up tailgates for all other football games, setting up tailgates before soccer games, and all other sports. Also coordinating with the Color Run chair to lead the tailgate the morning of the run.
